In reading this quarter we are working on stopping ourselves when we feel confused and when the mental picture in our minds gets fuzzy. This is actually very hard to do! At times, we don't want to stop reading because our story is captivating us. However, if we read on without recognizing we're confused, we'll never get closer to become Life Long Readers.

We must find all the clues we can to solve the mystery of the unknown words or phrases!
Some clues we can use include: (don't worry, there are many more!)

WORD DETECTIVES!
We must find all the clues we can to solve the mystery of the unknown words or phrases!
Some clues we can use include: (don't worry, there are many more!)
- Using synonyms in a sentence, words that seem similar.
- Using antonyms, moments when the sentence tells us the opposite.
- Finding explanations within the sentence! Sometimes reading on gives us the answers.
- Recognizing examples in a list form or when a word refers to something we do know.

- The mansion was dilapidated. The windows were broken, the paint was faded, I’m pretty sure a pack of rats had invaded.
- Edwin was jubilant when he got the news, before he found out, he was depressed with the blues.
- Eating sweets was against Kristi’s wishes, just fruits and vegetables which are nutritious.
- The teacher read through a book and perused a newspaper and then she took a snooze.
