Here is a copy of the rubric so you can be prepared for how you will be assessed.
5C, I've noticed that many of your scripts are becoming quite long with stories. Remember, this video must have information that your viewers can read, hear, and understand after seeing it only once. Take a look at the video below that we saw earlier in the quarter. As a class we agreed there were many positives about this video and areas for improvement.
Be thinking about these things as you create your own video. Try to avoid having to explain too much; if you want to tell a story, only focus on that story. Otherwise, give strong facts that include real numbers. Make sure you aren't stereotyping in your video either. Its not fair to say ALL men treat women unequally or that ALL white people are unkind to black people.
Below is a list of apps/program you could consider using for your inequality project. Take a moment to click through and see if you have any questions about how to use them.
Remember, to receive an "M" in the video category, you need to use at least 3 different programs. You also must pay attention to the quality of your photos (500x500) and the audio (music softer than words). If you need help learning these apps, I'll be available everyone morning at 7:45 for the rest of the school year to help you!
Before you reflect on your time with Room to Read, watch this powerful video: Did that video make you feel something? Did it connect with you in some way? I know I cried when watching it while you were away at Music class. This video really made me see the power of perseverance and education.
Room to Read shared a lot of helpful information with us today. Take some time to discuss what you learned and how it relates to your inequality unit: -In The Story of Tay Thi (video), what inequalities does she face? How does she overcome them? -What is Room to Read's main focus? -What information from the presentation surprised you or made you feel something? -What can YOU do to help girls stay in school and receive an education? If there is more you would like to discuss, please write freely. Also remember that Ms. Nhiem Le left her email address for you to contact her further. If you wish to write her with questions, please show me them first (we don't want everyone sending her the same questions!). Be sure to check out the Room to Read website and their Facebook page for more information. Today we were fortunate enough to meet some members of the Heifer Vietnam organization to see how they help fight poverty in our communities. Please take a moment to reflect on your learning. Use the questions below to guide you, but put more reflection in if you have more to share.
Open the websites (linked above and button below) to learn more about this organization
Our worlds seem to be colliding in MinecraftEdu. We have classmates who have died and some who have been put in jail while others buy luxury items in stores and have their health restored for free. Take a moment tonight to reflect on your experience today. Remember, you can answer my questions but you can also add much more.
Remember to be reading the Grade 5 News to keep up on the latest updates in our world. Be sure you don't just focus on YOUR country but also look into the inequalities around the world. Watch the following "Why Poverty?" video and reflect on the questions below on your SS page. ***Include the video link on your own site so people know what you're referring to! 1. Why does the mother go to another country for work? 2. Do you think the sacrifice is worth the benefits? Why or why not? 3. Can you relate to this story? How? If not, can you make another connection? Use this list to help you choose which reflections to read. Remember you have to read and comment on 2 for homework, but you can read and comment on as many as you like!
Your reflection tonight requires you to make a choice and explain thoroughly WHY you made this choice. Tomorrow's reflection will be to read 2 other posts and provide feedback so make sure you are being very clear. Below are sentence starters to get you moving. You are not required to use them if you have another way you'd like to write! -If I could move to another country, I would move to ... because...
Before we went into our countries today, we collected data about how we felt about our country and our social class after our first day in the world.
After we left, some people felt differently.
We will use your responses to make a new table tomorrow.
Don't forget to check out the News Page each week. You will be responsible for knowing when laws change. If it's posted on the News site, the government did its job of informing you. YOU must be the one who reads it. Also feel free to share your comments on any story you find interesting.
