This article lists 50 different things that responsible people do. There were a few that really stood out to me:
- I understand how to write S.M.A.R.T. Goals. This was interesting to me because I remember when teaching fourth grade we spent a lot of time learning how to make SMART goals. I don't see a lot of my students using them, however, and I am realizing that I need to model this more!
- The morning hours are the foundation for the rest of your day, responsibility is the foundation for the rest of your life! Oh man, this one really made me think! I usually choose to exercise in the morning because I am afraid I will be too tired when I get home. But on the weekend, I take my time in the mornings and move very slowly. This usually means I don't get very much done on those days and now I see why!
- I need to create reminders to guarantee I follow through with my responsibilities. In 5C, we are trying to do this with our accountability partners. They can help remind us of what we want to do. But for me, I never set reminders for anything else. I don't set alarms, or use a planner, or even write myself notes. I should start!
Before researching, I wasn't sure what to do for my plan so I am really glad I took the time to look through this list. This week I want to use this list to try to get more things done in the mornings, be more clear in my goals, and use various reminders. Below is my detailed plan, written using the SMART goal structure:
- First, I will exercise three days a week in the morning during the next month. On the days I am not exercising, I will wake up at the same time so I can be on a schedule and work on something else, like meditation or stretching. This will help me start my day on a positive note AND will help me be responsible for my health. I will be able to reach this goal with the help of my accountability partner in school, Helen, and out of school, Ms. Krystal.
- Also, I will look for an app that helps me write down all the things I need to do and prioritize the list. I will try this app out so I can show my students how it works and see if they would like to use it too. The app should help me make a list of my responsibilities and remind me to do them with alarms. When I find a good one, I will write about it on my blog. I will have the best app picked out by the end of the 6-day cycle.
What do you think Helen? Is there anything I'm missing? Do you have an idea about how you can help me reach these two goals?
