Math in fifth grade will require much more explaining than it has in the past. This means students will be doing fewer problems but going into great detail with them, explaining the process they used to arrive at the solution.

As we grow more comfortable with this math setup, you will see that these strategies are designed to help us with the WHY and the HOW of math-- two parts that are often ignored! I appreciate all the patience I've seen from you all as you grow into critical thinkers in mathematics!

- Using Imaging (ex: imaging you have the cups and beans, drawing them in your notebook, but not actually using them)
- Using Number Properties (ex: breaking down standard numbers into their parts, not using materials or drawings to guide you)
